Privacy policy

This page explains what personal information First Rate Handyman collects when you request a quote or call us, why we collect it, how long we keep it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over your own data under UK data protection law. Ryan Douglas, trading as First Rate Handyman, is the data controller.

Who we are

Ryan Douglas, trading as First Rate Handyman, is the data controller for the personal information described on this page. You can contact us by email at info@firstratehandyman.co.uk. We don't publish a postal address for this business.

What we collect

When you fill in the quote form on this site, we collect your name, phone number, postcode, a description of the work, and — if you choose to attach one — a photo. If you call us, we collect your phone number and whatever details you give us about the job. If you accept cookies, we also collect analytics data about how you use this site through Google Analytics; if you don't accept, that analytics data isn't collected.

Why we collect it

We use quote form and phone details to respond to your enquiry, work out whether we can help, arrange and carry out the job, and invoice you for it. We use analytics data, where you've consented to it, to understand which pages are useful and where the site could be clearer.

Our lawful basis

We collect and use quote form and phone details because it's necessary to take steps at your request before entering into a contract with you, and to perform that contract once agreed. We use analytics data only where you've given consent through the cookie banner, and you can withdraw that consent at any time — see our cookie policy.

How long we keep it

If you send us a quote request or call us and the job doesn't go ahead, we delete your details within 12 months. If you book a job with us, we keep the job and invoice records for 6 years, because HMRC requires sole traders to keep business records for at least 5 years after the 31 January deadline for each tax year. Analytics data is subject to Google Analytics' own retention settings for this property.

Who we share it with

We use Netlify to host this website and to receive and store quote form submissions, including any photo you attach. Where you've consented, we use Google Analytics to measure site usage. We don't sell or share your information with anyone else, and we don't currently use any other third-party processor.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to be informed about how your data is used, the right to access the personal information we hold about you, the right to have inaccurate information corrected, the right to have your information erased, the right to restrict or object to certain processing, the right to data portability, and rights related to automated decision-making. To exercise any of these, email info@firstratehandyman.co.uk.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your personal information, contact us first at info@firstratehandyman.co.uk so we can try to put it right. If you're still not satisfied, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.
